Ideas When Employees Refuse to Wear Uniform

Uniform and dress codes got the honor and medal of being hated amongst most individuals. Majority of people feel like they cannot express themselves, feel uncomfortable in them, and find them boring. Due to the stigma associated with uniforms, employers have a hard time implementing a uniform policy. Here are some ideas of what you can do to make the transition smoother.

Be Positive:

Firstly, introduce your group uniforms, uniform policy, and fitting dates in a positive and exciting manner. If there is a positive atmosphere, chances are your employees will catch the positivity. Some ideas can be to make a get together group lunch in, a creative video clip or audio message, or a well written poem. The ideas are endless, but positivity is the key.

List the Pros:

Focus on the Pros. Explain your employees the many benefits they will have from the uniform code. For example, how it will save them time and money. It will cut their costs and time shopping for work clothing which they constantly need to update. Another benefit can be, it will save time getting dress in the morning and reduce the stress of peer presume between each other and the need to look better than the next.

Listen:

If they complain, do not shut them down. Hear them out and realize where they are coming from. They may bring up valid points of why they don’t want them. Whether you agree of not, give them validation. Let them talk. Let them complain. Let them vent it out. This will solve half the problem by getting their frustration out of their system. Do not push away their feelings since it will just backfire. When you are done validating then you can go through all the pros again and explain the amazing benefits that will come out of it. You can perhaps let them vote on the color of uniform or involve them so they don’t feel bossed around. In addition, negotiation may be a good idea too. Obviously depending on the type of setting you are coming from.

Create Group Pride:

And lastly, emphasize group pride. Delve into the pride they should have by belonging to something bigger and part of your group family. Infuse in them a confidence in where they work, so they will want to walk around representing their company. It’s a game changer when employees feel this and then they will surely wear them happily.

To end, realize anything new is like new pair of shoes. They will get used to them, mold into them and grow to love them. Be positive, hear them out, and see what you can come up with together. Good Luck!
